Road trip!

It's been a whirlwind around here - friends got married in Denver, where I spent an absolutely wonderful weekend with my darlin'. Been a lot of fun anime watched too. But tomorrow, I'm leaving with Dad. We're heading out west, three days out to the Grand Canyon, then visiting Hoover Dam, probably Vegas, and after that... who the hell knows? Be fun to find out. I've got two weeks off, Dad's finally retired, so we'll just drive where the whim takes us and see what's interesting.

Suggestions should take into account that I'm not particularly athletic and Dad is pushing 70 - we're going to the Grand Canyon but not down IN it, heh. I thought about going by Bryce Canyon in Utah on the way back, since it's (a) extremely neat and (b) can be experienced from a series of lookout points that don't require much in the way of hiking at all. Any other ideas are welcome.

1 I like the aviation museum haflway between Williams and Grand Canyon.

2 You remember what it's called? Looks like there's a few of them in the state...

3 Coming back through Arizona, and to a lesser extent New Mexico, there are a TON of classic "tourist traps".  You can find most of these indexed online for trip planning.
And plan for frequent stops, IMHO; the scenery is fabulous.

4 It's called "Planes of Fame".

5 I'm planning on frequent stops anyway - Dad's bladder is notably small. (Not original equipment, for that matter!)

I see it now, Pete. Yeah, we'll probably stop off there, it's on the way anyway.

6 North of Al-be-quirky is one end of the most famous tourist line in the country, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.  Or you can catch an Isotopes baseball game, maybe?  And no visit to the City of Pete would be complete without stopping at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History... not that many places you can see a B-29 in situ, after all.

Regarding the Grand Canyon:  if you've not been there before, then, if at all possible, arrive at the rim just before sunrise.  Wait for said sunrise.

We've all seen pix of it; they mean nothing.  To see it unfold before your eyes is a memory you will carry forever.

8 We rode C&T RR in President's car once for an anniversary. It's great, if you like this sort of thing. It was before a key trestle burned down, I meant to check the status of them.
