Saimoe update 10/23
Suddenly, I feel a lot better about having watched all that Familiar of Zero yesterday!
In a totally unexpected, flabbergastingly bizarre turn of events, Louise edged out Suigintou to take the H Block title and round out our quarterfinal. I just didn't expect that. Sure, I mentioned that it could happen as some kind of theoretical event, but it actually happened! Oy vey, I'd have made a mint betting on it...
They've determined the quarterfinals matches, and either they declined to shuffle the brackets this year or the shuffle was just improbably corresponding to an A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H result. I'll save the analysis for later, as there's a two-day break before we get going again.
Wow. Just... wow.
Yesterday's block H final:

already form a anti-lousie alliance on AS. Vote for anyone but Louise. Unlike Last years Dark horse, Chikaru-sama, louise is garnering a lot of hate.
With Gin gone, it is basically anyone's game for the 2007 Saimoe Crown.

Damn... and just a few days ago I was convinced that one of the finalists would be a Rozen Maiden. It's practically wide open now.
At least I know who I'll be voting for in the quarterfinals. Lucky Star/Higurashi ticket all the way!

Predictions:
A/B: Nanoha
C/D: Konata
E/F: Louise (she's on a winning streak)
G/H: Hoo boy.
I'd like to see Tsukasa win, but I'll be damned if I know how it'll really come out.
And I'm starting to think that Konata can win it all. Moe Otaku FTW!

True enough that Louise must go down. Never minded her character but the line has been crossed. Hard to say how things will finish off now. Just planning on Louise not being the one to finish on top.
Maybe a finish for one of the Higurashi girls would be the best result.

What can I say? I'm not an impartial observer. I tend to get to like characters in shows I'm working on, even if they're not all that likable. Doing so REALLY HELPS when it's midnight and you're trying to make a deadline! ;p
Louise isn't an exception. She's a snotty bitch, this is completely true. However, the plot she's in tends to unfairly throw it in her face, especially early on in the show - we see her at her worst, provoked by more or less everybody, and her coping strategy is to dump on Saito. Not good, but hardly all that bad... it's a fairly usual reaction from somebody who's being picked on and suddenly finds themselves with an inferior.
To her credit, she gets past that eventually. Not totally, she's still more tsun than dere, after all, but by the standards of her social class, she's actually pretty good. This is a low standard, admittedly, but there you go - she's competing with people like Osman and Mott and Guiche.
I don't think Louise can go much farther, though - a lot of that vote was "no Rozen", not "up with the Zero!"
