Saimoe tournament bracket

Okay, here's the big list - all 290 entrants in their rounds, with voting dates (Japan time, heh). I'm going to stick with meta-commentary here, so as to not run out of stuff to say for individual rounds later. ;p

The draw seems actually random this time, which is a welcome change for last year. Not many cases of big names from the same show being clumped in the same block. Worst case of that seems to be block C with Strikers, though it's basically Nanoha and a bunch of their secondary characters... and they're in there with Ana Coppola and whichever of the Itou girls wins C-4. Both of the Misaka sisters from Kanon are in D, but otherwise the Kanons are spread out. Suiseiseki and Souseiseki are both in block F, but they can't complain, as former champ and former runner-up... though the Seto no Hanayome crowd is a little screwed, with Seto and Maki both in F. G sports both Rika and Mion from Higurashi.

Should make for an interesting tournament overall - there's relatively fewer "doomed rounds" where it doesn't really matter who the winner is. The only danger is that a single series may end up taking multiple blocks, but with any luck, the normal faction and anti-faction strife will keep that to a minimum...

1 So they have to vote for one out of each group of four? Is that how it works?

2 By the way, reenter this post in the editing frame and go to the bottom and disable "smilies", then repost it. That'll make your 0 8 dates post properly.

And yet another comment in close succession: it's going to get bloody starting on the very first day. Evangeline versus Shana in A-1? Yikes!

It begs credulity that Chika and Nobue both landed in C-4 by chance.

C-7: Yuuma is toast up against Primula. Alas, poor Magipoka! (But Pachira might have a chance in F-6.)

Or do I misunderstand how the voting works? I'm assuming that everyone votes for one out of A-1, one out of A-2, one out of A-3, etc. and that the top vote getter in each of those goes to the next round, a total of 96. Is that right?

4 Thanks, Steven, did just that.

You have the voting correct - winner goes on, the two others are gone. The next round will be another round of three, taking it down to 32.

I'm willing to admit the possibility of one cosmic coincidence. Happened to a couple of shows last year too - think Hayate and Signum ended up in the same round, for that matter.

5 Actually, let me double-comment here too.

You don't HAVE to vote for one out of each round they're running that day. If they're running three rounds, and in two of them there's characters from shows you wouldn't watch under pain of being forced to watch WB, you can just vote for the one character, and that's fine.

OR... you find a buddy who cares about one of those shows, and say "hey, I'll put in a vote for your character if YOU vote for the character I like tomorrow." He either tells you to get bent ("vote against my precious Noh Wei? No way!") or takes you up on it, and you've made a successful log-roll. That is, of course, assuming he does it... ;p
