Saimoe second prelim results 7/28, round 7/29
Not a whole lot of comments about yesterday - came out more or less as expected. Notably, Skuld and Urd both got hammered, coming in 43rd and 47th. Don't know if any of our winners will do well, but a few of them are at least good enough to give a good run to their opponent.
Belldandy might do better in a weak round, but unfortunately for her, she's in today's round, and it's not looking too weak. Four people from today's round came in 9th in the first prelim (one of the Hiiragi family from Lucky Star, Ayaka from Negima, Saki from Hayate [clumsy maid moe!], and Kana from Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru), plus a couple of tenths, and even a few of them further back with really high first-round vote totals. (Nagisa from Strawberry Panic came in 12th last time, for example, but with almost 400 votes; first place from yesterday was 308.)
Can't read too much into the last-round vote totals - sure, the big names aren't competing for the votes, but they're also not drawing in the voters for those halo-effect wins...
Nobody in this round that I have much moe for, aside from Saki - for some reason the maid characters in Hayate are really working for me, I guess. There's a couple I'd rather have NOT win... we don't need another StrikerS photograph character, we don't need Kirche from Zero's Familiar, and we don't need Tomoyo from CLAMP's "we're living off doujins of our own work" series. Fortunately, there's no negative voting, so I'll just have to rely on the collective good taste of otaku everywhere.

What, no love for Tomoyo?
I mean she was the first lesbian stalker before lesbian stalkers became a fad. This is a tribute vote for the first lesbian stalker.

Tomoyo, from CCS, is fine too. Plenty moe. Heck, Sakura won the first Saimoe, way back when, didn't she?
More of a commentary on Tsubasa than anything serious here. I can live with a certain amount of character recycling. I can live with Icchan showing up in Chobits. But making an entire series out of nothing but your old characters? And then mixing them up so you basically get to do whatever you want with them? And not even in a parody sense, but doing it as a straight story? Forget it. If they want to do something old, they should finish X... ;p

I have very mixed feelings about Tsubasa Chronicles. Frankly, I'm not really very interested in it, mostly for reasons that Avatar just mentioned. A series about the CCS characters when they're grown up is not fundamentally a bad idea, but it would be nice if it actually was the same characters, and not different characters who look similiar and have the same names.
As to Icchan showing up in Chobits, that makes more sense in terms of the mangas than it does in terms of the relevant anime series, but it's still a little weird. (Like the fact that Kaede in Angelic Layer is Minoru's deceased sister in Chobits, the loss of whom inspired him to build Yuzuki.)
Clamp at their best leave everyone in the dust -- but they get really strange sometimes.
